Principal's Blog 27th January 2017

This week has been full of activity – I am sure I start most of my blogs with that statement but it is true! - We pack so much into each week to ensure our students are engaged with a whole range of activities.

This week I have had the pleasure of attending the public speaking competition for our year 9 and 10 student teams. They competed to go forward in the 'English Speaking Union' Public Speaking Competition- both teams were commended for their performance. Unfortunately, only one team could go through to the next stage and this was awarded to the year 10 team. I had a celebratory breakfast with both teams on Thursday and it was great to hear how much they enjoyed the event and their plans for the next stages.

We held our sixth form Learning Conference with our PLE schools – Sir John Hunt Community Sports School, Tor Bridge High and All Saints Academy. We are very proud of our partnerships at post 16 as it enables us to offer a wide range of courses. By working together, we are able to offer the very best for each student. Teachers collaborate to share best practice, resources, cross moderation and ultimately, improving results for our students-leading to great progression routes.

Our year 8 Options Evening was a great opportunity for year 8 students and their parents to get a flavour of what to expect in Key Stage 4. We also held a careers fair as part of the evening with representatives from many businesses, universities and apprenticeship providers. It was lovely to see so many ex-students join us for the evening to discuss their career journeys with our students.

The excitement continues to build as we are now only 1 week away from our annual ski trip – students have been keeping a very close eye on the snow reports and are looking forward to this experience.
