Lipson Co-operative Academy

Principal's Blog 2nd December 2016

The highlight of this week was undoubtedly our annual Celebration Evening held on Monday at the Methodist Central Hall. Proud parents, carers and teachers enjoyed refreshments prepared and served by our Catering Co-operative group before the celebrations commenced.

At a time when headlines in the press and reports published from various organisations can sometimes create an unfair and negative picture of young people and fail to appreciate the dedication and commitment of staff working in schools, it was a particularly pleasant exercise to reflect on what we had achieved over the last 12 months.

Awards were given to students for a wide variety of reasons - academic achievements, sporting endeavours, artistic and personal achievements, community awards and live performances. We are proud of the achievements of our young people and congratulate them on their success.

The evening was exceptionally well attended by parents, carers and students and I was immensely proud and delighted to see students who have worked hard to gain the recognition that they deserve. We were honoured to have special guests, some of whom gave a speech - Lord Mayor Pauline Murphy, who congratulated our students on their achievements and also Brett Butler-Smythe, who is a regular visitor to Lipson as he runs enterprise events with our students. Brett was a contestant on The Apprentice show with Lord Alan Sugar and congratulated our students for their success.

The evening would not happen without the hard work and dedication of the staff involved in organising this prestigious event. In fact, when I consider the opportunities available to students at Lipson, I am very appreciative of their time, expertise and goodwill – they really do go the extra mile in working with our young people to ensure all students have a positive and successful experience at Lipson.
