Lipson Community Sports & Art Centre is central to the local community, as an Academy we strive to provide opportunities for all. Creating close relationships with sport, dance and theatre companies we are able to provide further opportunities for pupils at the Academy, the local and wider community and groups, teams and clubs. All of the companies below are based at Lipson Co-operative Academy and provide an excellent introduction into what the Academy has to offer.


Italia Conti
Italia Conti is the world’s longest established stage school and Italia Conti Plymouth offers the full range of Performing Arts courses at Lipson Community Sports & Arts Centre. With an emphasis on enjoyment, pupils developing confidence, creativity and self-discipline pupils can attend an extensive range of classes using the facilities at the Centre. Pupils also have the opportunity to progress and become professional performers that are seen on stage and screen.

Plymouth Raiders
Plymouth Raiders are the only professional basketball team in Devon and Cornwall. At Lipson Community Sports & Arts Centre Plymouth Raiders offer U16s Girls Only Basketball and High Performance Summer Basketball Camps.


Elmhurst and Birmingham Royal Ballet
Elmhurst is the oldest vocational dance school in the UK with a vision to provide a world renowned centre of excellence for the training and education of classical ballet dancers for Birmingham Royal Ballet and other national and international dance companies. Elmhurst prepares students for professional careers in ballet and allied dance genres. Elmhurst has been running an Associate programme in Birmingham and in Manchester, Plymouth and Sunderland. Lipson Community Sports & Arts Centre is the home to the Plymouth programme with weekend dance classes.



Plymouth Harriers
Plymouth Harriers are a running club affiliated to both UK Athletics and the British Triathlon Club. All abilities are welcome to join one of the most successful Plymouth based running clubs. Qualified coaches and leaders enables all abilities to join and achieve running goals from a first time runner to a competitive runner wishing to target a specific race time or distance.

Drake Football Club
Drake FC provides the opportunity to learn, develop and enjoy football from a variety of ages starting from 4 years old. Drake FC have a variety of teams that train and play at Lipson. All coaches are FA qualified and experienced aiming to deliver on all 4 aspects to improve the player: physical, psychological, technical  and social skills.


The Wranglers
The multi award winning Wranglers Theatre Company has been established for over 60 years. The company has gone from strength to strength to become one of the premier theatre companies in the South West. Incorporating a thriving Children’s and Youth group, the company produces up to four shows a year at Lipson Community Sports & Arts Centre. The year culminates with the theatre company’s fun-packed panto.

Plymouth Argyle Disability Football Club
Disabled footballers are provided with the opportunity to play regular, competitive football overseen and affiliated by Devon FA. The Argyle Community Trust has over 100 participants playing regularly in Disability Football. Lipson Community Sports & Arts Centre is proud to be home to some of the PADFC teams who train regularly on the astroturf pitches and host regular tournaments.

Plymouth Community Gymnastics
All ages and abilities are welcome to weekly Gymnastic sessions and regular Holiday Camps at Lipson Community Sports & Arts Centre. Qualified and experienced coaches use a range of gymnastic equipment to provide varied and fun Gymnastic sessions.

Lipson Lions Hockey Club
The Junior Hockey Club was formed over 10 years ago providing a base for young children to learn, experience and enjoy hockey. All coaches are registered, qualified and dedicated to ensuring that all children who join the club are coached correctly, enjoy the experience and importantly, do so in a safe, friendly and positive environment. There is opportunity to participate within teams and play competitively with the option to develop and eventually become part of the OPM Men’s teams.

All Stars 
All Stars are a theatre group established in 2004. All Stars is run completely by volunteers for adults with learning disabilities.  Members are engaged in activities and experiences that they may not be accessible to encounter elsewhere. Workshops and performance based activities are provided to enlighten and inform individuals.
