Frequently Asked Questions

My child is joining Lipson in September. Is there an information page with an overview of what I need to know?

Yes. We have compiled a page with some key information relating to transition from primary to secondary. You can find this here

Has there been an increase in canteen prices?

There has not been a price increase to most foods sold in the canteen since 2009.  However, due to the rising costs of food, staff salaries and utility costs it has been necessary to increase prices.  Therefore there have been small increases in products sold in the canteen and the main meal of the day has increased from £2.10 to £2.20 and the main meal including a dessert has increased from £2.20 to £2.30.  Not all food costs have incurred the same level of increase due to varying wholesale food cost rises e.g. meat products have risen proportionately more that than other products. We have maintained/reduced prices on healthy fruit items and salads to continue to encourage healthy eating choices.

When are the next non-student days/holidays?

The next holiday commences on Monday 28th May and ends on Friday 1st June. School begins on Monday 4th June.

'Is it possible for my child to take time off during term time?'

"Government guidelines make it clear that Head Teachers should not grant leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.  If you feel that the request to take a holiday/absence during term time is due to an exceptional cicumstance, you are required to complete an absence request form and submit it to your child's Head of Guild as soon as possible.  A decision will be made by the Principal as to whether this absence will be authorised or not and you will be advised in writing of the Academy's decision.  Unauthorised absence may lead to a penalty notice being issued, or a fine of up to £2,500.  Any Penalty Notice/legal action taken will be per parent, per child (e.g. a £60 Penalty Notice will be issued per parent, per child who has unauthorised absence)."
