Headteacher's Blog 10th September 2021
Welcome to the start of the new academic year which is proving to be very successful already. Our new Year 7 students have started to settle in well and find their way around the school site. They have dealt with the transition from primary to secondary school very well and have taken class tests in their stride. We all know the transition between schools can be a little daunting but this was made easier with so many of our newest students attending summer school in August. They got to know lots of the staff and had a taster of the fantastic facilities on offer at Lipson. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of our new students as the weeks go on.
No sooner have we welcomed this group of students, then we are looking ahead to next year’s intake! On Tuesday we will hold our Open Evening for Year 5 students from 5.30-8pm. This important evening is a chance for children and their families from our local primary schools to come and have a look at what Lipson has to offer. Choosing a secondary school is an incredibly important decision, so what better way to advertise the school and talk about what its really like, than having student ambassadors present on the evening. Teachers will be asking some students to come and represent us on Tuesday evening so please look out for consent forms.
We will also resume tours for Year 5 families on Monday for those people who would like to visit Lipson during the school day. These can be booked by phoning reception.
Our Year 12 students have settled into 6th form life very well after having a few weeks of taster lessons last term. I’m delighted to say that they will have the opportunity of attending the all-important Prom on 20th September. Such a right of passage for many young people which has been taken away from them in the past 18 months. I’m really looking forward to seeing the students and staff dressed to impress and will share the photographs in my blog.
The school has a real buzz about it this week the staff have been fantastic, enthusiastically engaging on the training days and students are looking incredibly smart and fully equipped to learn. It is great to be back and I am genuinely excited about what the coming year will bring. Thank you as ever for your support from home and I wish you all a lovely weekend.
Very best wishes,
Martin Brook, Headteacher
