Headteacher's Blog 20th September 2019
It is with great pleasure that I can start this week’s blog with the announcement that I will be taking over as the Headteacher of Lipson on a permanent basis. I was interviewed for the post by a panel of Governors earlier in the week and am pleased to say that I was successful. The staff were informed of the decision this morning and a letter will be going out to all parents later today. We are also hoping to run a story in the local press to inform the wider community.
Despite my lengthy commute to work it was a very easy decision to make. I have been blown away by the welcome that I have received from the students, staff and parents of Lipson since my arrival just after Easter. I arrived at a school with a brilliant group of staff who have the potential to bring about improvements quickly. We have already seen how everyone pulling together has improved the standards of behaviour in and around the school in a relatively short space of time. The next task is to work with the teaching staff to make the small tweaks to their practice that I believe will bring about further increases to our results. We will also place significant emphasis on the well-being of our staff and our students. I want to run a school which the staff and students can be very proud of but I also want it to be a place where people want to be because they are being treated with kindness and respect.
It has been another busy week in school. We ran two very successful Parent Information Evenings for Year 7 and Year 9 which gave us the opportunity to talk about our plans for the year and gave parents the chance to meet with their Year Leader and Tutors. We are planning similar evenings for the other year groups throughout the year. Individual Careers meetings are underway for our Year 11 students and the staff mentors have now been trained and are ready to start their work with the same year group.
All in all, I am very pleased with the start of term. There is a really positive feel about the place and I am confident that we are moving in the right direction. I am under no illusions though; the real hard work starts now. As the permanent Headteacher the buck now stops with me but I am relishing the challenge that lies ahead and will work tirelessly with my team to make Lipson as good a school in all areas as I believe it can be.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr Brook, Headteacher
