Headteacher's Blog 23rd April 2021
Welcome back to school after a lovely sunny Easter break. Students and staff have returned rested and fully charged, ready to steam forward into the summer term.
As discussed before Easter, we have been focusing on uniform standards since our return and have been very impressed with the majority of students and their high standard of smart dress. Thank you to parents and carers for supporting the school in this matter and once again, if any family is having difficulty sourcing suitable uniform items, please contact Student Services. It was a pleasure to hear compliments from an external visitor, who commented on the particularly high standards of uniform and behaviour around the school site this week, something we should be very proud of.
Year 13 have been busy this week undertaking exams in class, which, along with a portfolio of work spanning the period of their course will go towards their final centre assessed grade. Students have been incredibly motivated and focused on putting in maximum effort to achieve the very best grades they can to take on to future study or employment.
We have a very exciting programme planned for our year 11 students which will include them undertaking exams in class in each of their GCSE subjects, followed by an early introduction to the Sixth Form. From 17th May all Year 11 students will become Year 12 and will enjoy the benefits of sampling Sixth Form life, such as non-uniform, access to the common room and tasters of Sixth Form study. Those students looking to study vocational courses will hopefully get to access their Training Providers before the summer and we will help to get work experience organised asap to ensure the very best placements.
We cannot underestimate the impact the past years disruption has had on our exam year groups and hope that by giving them a clear plan for the rest of term, this will, in some way go to give them the stability they need. On the 5th July, Years 12 and 13 will be able to celebrate with their prom, something that current Year 12 missed out on last year. Current Year 11 will have their prom on 8th July. Two events to very much look forward to and a return to some form of normal celebration.
It was great to unveil the new undercover seating area in the Year 11 recreation space. This area has some nice benches for our students to sit on and an overhead cover for more inclement weather. This will be really beneficial to free up more space indoors, whilst keeping separate year group social spaces.
The weather looks to be set very fair for the weekend so I do hope you and your families get to go outside and enjoy the fresh air in this wonderful part of the country that we live.
Very best wishes,
Martin Brook, Headteacher
