Headteacher's Blog 24th September 2021
We had a wonderful start to this week by holding the Prom at Boringdon Golf Club. Something that many schools haven’t been able to offer after the disruption of the past 18 months, we felt it was far too important to miss. The evening was fantastic and students and staff got to celebrate in style at this rite of passage. Please look at our social media for all the photographs.
At the other end of the scale, Year 7 took the huge step of staying overnight at our ever successful residential on Dartmoor. There’s no doubting that to stay away from home would have been quite daunting for our youngest students but it was a great way to take them out of their comfort zone and build on the already fantastic relationships they have formed with their peers and teachers. Students participated in some excellent outdoor activities and had a wonderful time.
We continue to welcome tours from Year 5 & 6 students and their parents during the school day. Open Evening was incredibly popular but that is us putting on a show! I welcome prospective parents coming to have a look at how the school operates on a normal working day. We have noticed ever increasing enquiries from across the city, just highlighting the fact that the word is getting out there about the good things that are happening at Lipson.
Our new enrichment programme is launched on Monday. We will be offering a phenomenal range of activities for students to choose from. The offer is very broad and as well as the Sport, Music, Drama and Dance, includes Minecraft Club, Running, Book Club and Gardening to name but a few. Students have been told about this in assemblies this week but please encourage your children to come and get involved in this fantastic extra-curricular offer.
Also, on Monday we will be holding a Macmillan cancer support coffee morning. We will be selling cakes and treats varying for 50p to £1.50. If you would like to support this worthy cause please could we ask you for donations of shop bought cakes or alternatively, send your child in with some cash on Monday so they can buy some treats on offer.
As ever, I don’t seem to be able to go a week without mentioning Covid. We have been instructed to provide a venue for students to be vaccinated by the government. This will be managed by Virgin Health Care who administer all our student vaccinations. They will deal with the logistics of the day and the all-important consent. As a school, we have no position or opinion on the roll out of the vaccination and I would ask that any questions regarding this are directed to Virgin Health Care who will be able to help you.
Please click here for my video update which will be sent out every other week, where I talk about all the events that have been happening and future things to look out for at Lipson.
Very best wishes,
