Headteacher's Blog 7th May 2021
It has been really busy here over the last few days and the four-day week has actually felt much longer, but we reach the weekend in good spirits as there is plenty of positive news to report. The 'exam' season is now well under way for students in Years 10, 11 and 13. I have to say that the students have been amazing and continue to show great resilience during what has undoubtedly been a very challenging time for them. As always, I would also like to thank the staff who have taken on all the extra work without complaint and who remain determined that our students get the grades that they deserve.
It has been lovely this week to see our wider curricular programme of activities really get into gear. Music, Drama, Art and PE to name but a few have always been major strengths at Lipson and it is heart-warming to see the students starting to get involved again in some of the fun stuff that makes all the difference to their time with us.
I wanted to take the opportunity to share some very important news with you.
Last week the Governing Body at Lipson voted to pass the following resolutions: -
To work towards joining a Multi Academy Trust.
To work towards joining the Ted Wragg Multi Academy Trust (TWMAT) subject to: robust due diligence; the setting of a mutually agreed timetable; satisfactory consultation with the Trust's key stakeholders involving TWMAT; and legal agreement. Both parties' expectations to be set out in a mutually agreed Memorandum of Understanding. Additionally, the Trustees expressed a strong preference for an engagement period of one academic year.
After much soul searching I want to reassure you that I am very happy with this decision. In the TWMAT I believe that we have found a partner who will work with us (rather than do to us) and enable us to continue on our journey to becoming a truly great school. I know that many of you, like me, will be keen that we preserve all that Lipson stands for. I will continue as the Headteacher here and have been given every assurance that I will be allowed to continue running Lipson as I have done over the last two years. I remain as committed as ever to improving the life chances of every single one of our students but doing it the right way. We will continue to underpin everything we do with an emphasis on relationships and kindness and will carry on building a school that the students can be proud of and where the staff want to work.
I believe that working with TWMAT will allow us to continue doing things our way but will provide the additional benefits of better resources and more opportunities for collaboration and I am sure that the partnership will secure the future of Lipson in the coming years.

Despite the gloomy weather forecast I hope you are able to have a lovely weekend.
Very best wishes,
