As the new school year is well and truly underway, we are encouraged by how quickly and successfully year 7 have settled in.  Some of whom were fantastic student ambassadors during this week’s open evening for prospective students and their parents.  What a fantastic evening that was.

It is always an enjoyable part of the job to showcase our school to visitors but it was a privilege to show it off to so many. We had a great turnout of prospective students from across the city who all wanted to know about what we offer here at Lipson.

These events are key for parents to understand what each school offers but also where their child will feel supported and a real sense of belonging. We do this so well at Lipson with our unique guild system but to ensure parents understand what we do here, we offer tours during the normal school day so they can see what their child’s experience would be like at school.

We have another event for parents next week at our open afternoon and anticipate even more interest.

In my speech to parents I spoke about what makes us the ideal first choice school, how our values underpin our ethos and why we are successful – not only in producing academic results but ensuring our students leave us with a well-rounded education, able to take on an active part in society in which they will work and live. This is what we do well at Lipson as we ensure we add value to our students’ lives. We do this is many ways and are always looking at how we can enhance the educational experience of our students.

Some of our sixth form students have embarked upon a residential trip this weekend to Stratford led by our head of drama –Mrs Scrivener and supported by Mr Butler, Mathematics; the trip includes a visit to the theatre to see Miss Saigon and a trip to Cadbury World, I expect lots of tasting to take place and some samples brought back!  This is just one of the many enrichment activities we have planned for this year.
