Principal's Blog 16th November 2018

This half term is definitely a busy one. Last wet and windy weekend our Big Band members past and present performed at Buckland Abbeys Christmas Fair.  The group showed real resilience igniting the festive spirit in such wild conditions.  With hats, gloves and coats adorned the group performed spectacularly as usual.  I was very proud to go and watch them with my family on Saturday.

I attended the festival of remembrance on the Hoe on Sunday and was taken aback by how many of our students were there as part of the service in various different cadet groups etc and also as attendees of the service.  They all showed great dignity and maturity and were a real credit to the school.

Year 11 student Lisa Menhennett was the standard bearer for the Devon Army Cadet force in the festival of remembrance at the pavilions last Friday and was once again the standard bearer at the remembrance service on the Hoe on Sunday.  A real accolade which she should be very proud of, I know I am.

Our 6th Form Open Evening took place on Wednesday.  The Sports Hall was a hive of activity with enthusiastic Year 11 students and parents perusing the displays of courses on offer.  Students were impressed at the vast array of choice open to them, from traditional academic courses such as A levels, to vocational routes, such as off-site study at one of our partner Training Providers.  I greatly encourage students to remain as part of Lipson, students achieve more with us and can access a wide variety of career options whilst remaining under the wing of Lipson.

On Thursday 22nd November at 3.30pm we will be holding an Information, Advice and Guidance drop in, in main reception for any student who requires further guidance before completing their post 16 application forms.  We welcome attendance so fully informed course selections can be made for this important next phase of education.

Please remember that next Friday 23rd November is a non-pupil, staff training day. This training day is instead of the one we would normally do in January. We are looking forward to welcoming Robin Launder to the school to lead our training.
