Lipson Co-operative Academy

Principal's Blog 23rd February 2018

One of the things that I really enjoy about working at Lipson Co-operative Academy is how well our students represent our school and what fabulous role models they are.  On Tuesday night, our Year 11 Drama students were taken on a trip to see live theatre at The Theatre Royal which was organised by Natasha Scrivener. I am very pleased to say that our students were absolutely outstanding in terms of behaviour and attitude.

I also enjoy working here because of the excellent relationships that I see between students and staff that are rooted in mutual respect.  So it is great to see that there will be a King Kong of Ping Pong staff/students Table Tennis Knockout Tournament - starting on Monday 5th March in the gym each lunchtime all week.  Please support as I know our students really enjoy competing with staff and have an intense desire to win!

Pictured are the winners of the U12 Central Venue Football League. I am delighted to congratulate this unbeaten team which means they are Plymouth Champions and will go through to the Devon County Finals.  Amazingly, they have only conceded 3 goals but scored 24 with Fern Orchard finishing with the Golden Boot.  This is a fantastic achievement in their first year at Lipson Co-operative Academy.  Well done!

I am absolutely honoured to announce that one of our students has won the 12-18yrs category in the LPUK Positively Unique Awards. Caitlyn Hellyer has been nominated for her hard work throughout the school year, recently completing her exams and undergoing a major operation.  What makes her so worthy of our admiration is that she always maintains her positivity and humour in all situations.

On Thursday this week, the Year 7 Quiz was held with 7 teams competing in a range of rounds from general knowledge to 'Spot the Disney character'. There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the event, particularly during the final 'speed rounds'. The winning team (actually named 'The Winning Team' on the sign-up sheet!) took home some great prizes and, more importantly, the glory of victory. Watch this space for another quiz next term.

World Book Day is on Thursday 1st March.  Mrs Pope from the LRC has arranged for staff to read aloud during lunchtimes throughout the week.  This will take place in old reception and fits nicely with this year’s theme of ‘Share a Story - encouraging reading from breakfast to bedtime!’  Thank you to all the staff who are getting involved with such an important event.
