Year 11 Parents’ Evening was a great event this week.  Attendance was high and parents and students were fully engaged in what can be done to be as prepared as possible for the exam period.  By being fully informed through access to the fantastic tools available to them, anxiety levels for students can be reduced.  Parents were impressed with GCSE Pod, Study Café and in particular revision resources developed by individual departments.  We don’t want our Year 11s to burn out, so we must prepare them in as friendly environment as possible, to be prepared is half the victory.

Our Enrichment Days will be launched on Monday for Years 7-9.  This is an exciting opportunity for students to take part in activities they would not ordinarily have the chance to experience in the school context.  Our Enrichment Days will run from 26th-28th June 2019 inclusive.  Students will have brought home an information booklet detailing all the fantastic opportunities open to them.  Booking will open at 8am on Monday 28th January in the Sports Hall.

Staff have worked hard to produce a range of activities that will suit all interests, giving all our students the chance to try new things or improve existing skills, knowledge hobbies or interest.  This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and strengthen positive relationships between staff and students and I’m sure will be an even greater success than last year!

As you know, Mr Roulston has been running our Rubix club in the LRC over the past few months.  I was amazed to hear this week that Alfie Jones completed a cube in 58 seconds.   This astonishing time is worthy of the world championships and we plan to get him signed up for external recognition asap.  Well done Alfie for displaying such great determination.

It is always a pleasure to hear from ex-students about their accomplishments since leaving school. Ex-student Harry Wilkinson has amazingly been selected to play for England under 18s Rugby World Cup!  Harry will travel to Japan for this prestigious tournament.  What an achievement, we look forward to seeing him in action.

Last night our Year 12 RSL and Year 11 BTEC Music students held a concert.  This fabulous first ever live performance was very well received.  Our Year 12 students have made a great start to their course and can only imagine the quality they will produce by the end of their course.

The Year 11 performance was a culmination of all they have learnt over 3 years studying Music.  It was a fantastic evening of performances and a pleasure to watch a showcase of musical talent.

Finally, some of our very fortunate students are making last minute preparations for their trip to Italy skiing next Friday.  This wonderful opportunity has been over a year in the planning and promises to be a fantastic once in a lifetime experience.  I’m sure I will have plenty of photographs to share with you of the trip in the next few weeks.  I’m not envious at all.

At Lipson we are proud to provide a well-rounded education which encompasses enrichment as well as academic progress.  This type of education enables students to take on an active part in the society in which we live and work.  We add value to our students’ lives and strive to develop the ‘whole’ child, increasing confidence and self-esteem.

Happy reading of the Enrichment booklet and we look forward to a very busy Monday morning, with lots of excited students booking spaces on what should prove to be fantastic experiences.
