Welcome back to another half term at Lipson. I hope everyone had an enjoyable half term break, catching up with loved ones and friends.

Half Term Homework

Never one to turn down a challenge so when Mr Roulston started his Speed Cubers Club, he gave me a Rubik’s Cube to join in. I managed to successfully solve the Rubik’s Cube over half term. Hate to say it took me a lot longer than 2 lunchtimes like student Alfie Jones, but I still did it. Something that has plagued me since the 1980’s. Speed Cubers Club runs every Tuesday lunchtime in the LRC.

On the sporting front, I have been very proud to hear of the success of 2 of our keen Rugby players.  Peter Keanie has gained a place in the under 18’s Devon team and Harry Wilkinson has received a full scholarship at Exeter Chiefs for the next 3 years.  What a fantastic achievement for these amazing young men and testament to the hard work of our fantastic P.E department, in continually supporting and pushing them to succeed.

Year 9 Parents Evening took place last night and was once again very well attended.  The evening not only offered one to one feedback with teachers, but also offered the opportunity to access other support available to parents at this important part of their child’s education.  Mr Boyes was on hand to demonstrate the benefits of GCSE Pod and Class Charts, whilst Miss Woodstock was present to give SEN advice, CSW showcased the service they provide families through the school and there was valuable information regarding enrichment opportunities at Lipson on display.  Parents commented on how useful they had found the evening, having been able to access so much information to fully support their child’s education.

I always love to hear about the successes our students have had after they have left Lipson.  Massive congratulations go out to our former sixth form students who have officially graduated from Plymouth Marjon University.

Shannon Mcdonnell , BA Hons Business Management
Jack Neal, BA Hons Business Management (Sport)
Lauren Toller, BA Hons English and Creative Writing
Joseph Bleek, Foundation Degree Arts: Music and Audio Technology
Catherine Davis, BA Hons Sports Coaching and Physical Education
Nicole Willis, BA Hons Sports Coaching and Physical Education

I wish them all the very best for their future careers.

We had a pleasant surprise of a gift of traditional Diwali sweets today from the parents of Arjun Shrestha.  Arjun had produced a fantastic display to accompany the sweets, detailing the Diwali festival of light which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrating new beginnings & the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.  It is always very interesting to hear about celebrations for all faiths at our school.

After our first half term of this academic year we decided to review the transition from KS2-3 and sent a survey out to all our Year 7 parents and carers.  The results were incredibly supportive of Lipson and all that has been done to make students feel safe, confident and happy at school.  This was a useful exercise in highlighting development points as well as what has gone particularly well at this important stage of our Year 7 student’s education.  I look forward to strengthening the interaction and communication with families in the future.
