Lipson Co-operative Academy

Principal's Blog 7th September 2018

What an excellent start to the academic year with students eager to tackle the term ahead. It has been lovely to see all our students, staff and governors new and old return this week and to hear about their summer adventures.

We started this term celebrating the success of both our GCSE and A level students, who enjoyed success at their GCSE and level 3 qualifications. We wave a fond farewell to our Year 13 students who have left us to join degree courses at some of the top universities across the country and on some of the top level apprenticeship courses. We look forward to hearing how they get on.

After celebrating their GCSE results in the summer, we inducted a large number of last year’s Year 11 back into sixth form to undertake the next phase of their education. All year groups have returned with great enthusiasm and determination to tackle the year ahead.

It was lovely welcoming our new Year 7 cohort who all looked very smart in their new uniforms. They’ve made a great start at Lipson and are settling in nicely. We are aware of how important the transition from Primary to Secondary school is and look forward to meeting our Year 7 parents and carers on Monday 17th September for a drop in evening. This is an excellent opportunity to establish vital relationships, also a chance to discuss how the students are settling in and to answer any question that may have arisen over the first few weeks.

Final preparations are underway for our Year 7 residential trip to Broadleas. We believe this experience will help the students to build positive relationships and create new friendships with their new class mates as well as building a rapport and getting to know their teachers. Students will be busy getting involved in outdoor adventurous activities such as walking, orienteering and obstacle courses. A great team building experience for all involved.

Our Open Evening for new parents and students is on Monday 10th September and this is a great opportunity for families to come and tour the school and meet staff and students so they are informed regarding the transition to Lipson Co-operative Academy as their school of choice.

As you will have seen, improvements have been made over the summer holidays to our site. These have included a road barrier ensuring only necessary vehicles access the school site enhancing student and staff safety. A new parent drop off/pick up system has been introduced and is working well. A new gate has been erected across our courtyard to ensure student safety at all times.

I wish you all an enjoyable weekend after what has been a great start to another busy academic year.
