Principal's Blog - Friday 29th June

What an exciting and eventful week this has been! We have successfully run our very first Enrichment
Programme which has proved to be incredibly successful. Students and staff have had an amazing time
and have made some life long memories during some fantastic enriching experiences.

The week hasn’t been without its hiccups however and I would like to personally praise the behaviour
and patience of our students and staff on the Thorpe park trip today. The coach broke down followed by
the replacement coach which also broke down just a few metres down the road from them. You really
couldn’t make up such bad luck! Students and staff remained calm and understanding in what ended up
being a nearly 2 hour wait to be rescued.

Despite the stressful situation, Miss Geraghty has reported that all the students were still excited about
the impending fun ahead of them at the park. As a result of the delay, all students will return back to
Lipson at approximately 11.30pm.

We had an eventful afternoon yesterday when a fire broke out at the back of the site near the railway
embankment and line. The significant blaze took hold of the dry undergrowth just after 2pm and 2 Fire
Engines were sent to attend and put the fire out. Due to the close proximity and severity of the fire,
trains were stopped for a time. I would like to thank the Fire Service for their speedy arrival and the rapid
way in which they got the blaze under control. I would also like to thank my staff for calmly directing and
supervising students as they exited the building and for the students and parents themselves for showing
great patience when being redirected home.

This week has seen most of Year 10 out on Work Experience. Staff members have been out to visit
students to see how they are enjoying their time in the real world of work. Staff have reported how
maturely students have portrayed themselves in the various different working environments they have
been in. I look forward to hearing all about it next week.

Please look out for a bumper edition of the blog and Lipson Weekly News next week with photos and
write ups from all the marvellous Enrichment Trips and Work Experience visits.

I wish you all a lovely weekend and due to the hot weather students are permitted not to wear their
blazers and ties next week.
