Welcome to ‘The Sixth Form’ at Lipson Co-operative Academy
The Sixth Form at Lipson Co-operative Academy is one where learning and achievement are at the core. We are driven by a belief in a common set of values and principles and by a passion for learning held by all.
We provide an excellent array of academic courses including A-Levels, BTECs and Cambridge Technical Certificates as well as a diverse selection of vocational and work related courses to suit the needs and interests of all our students.
Students follow individually tailored study programmes which combine all of the following elements:
- A range of academic, applied or vocational qualifications that stretch students and prepare them for further or higher education, apprenticeships or employment
- GCSE English and Mathematics resit examinations if students have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4 or wish to improve their grade for entry to some university courses and employment opportunities.
- Work experience, both extended and block placements, offering young people the opportunity to explore their career choices and to apply their skills in real work environments.
- A range of non-qualification activities so as to develop students’ wider skills, attitudes and confidence. This can include timetabled enrichment opportunities, residentials, university progression initiatives, subject specific visits and trips.
Students will also receive informed and up to date information, advice and guidance, supported by Career South West (CSW), during their application process, when considering course options and also throughout their time in the sixth form at Lipson leading to sustained career destinations. This advice is done in such a way that even for students who are not sure of their final destinations in life we help them to keep as many doors open as possible, thus allowing them to progress successfully once completing their studies in the Sixth Form.
The PLE (Partnership for Learning and Education) consortium consists of three secondary schools (Lipson Co-operative Academy, Sir John Hunt Community Sports College and Tor Bridge High. It is the biggest educational consortium in Plymouth and is becoming the largest sixth form provision in the city, offering a broad and diverse range of courses to suit students of all abilities in order to prepare them for future progression to university, apprenticeships and employment.
At Lipson Cooperative Academy’s Sixth Form, we strive to constantly enhance the quality of teaching and learning within our Sixth Form and all students are offered high levels of academic and pastoral support throughout their studies leading to the successes our students achieve and their progression onto university, apprenticeships and employment.
