Vocational Qualifications

What is a Vocational Course?

A vocational course is a training program which focuses more on practical work, rather than traditional academic exams. These courses prepares you with particular skills required for a specific job.

Where are these courses run?

We work with three training providers in Plymouth who are able to offer these courses on our behalf. Students will remain as a Lipson student but we cover all the costs associated with the course. The training providers we use are:

  • Discovery College Plymouth
  • Achievement Training
  • Norpro

What does a typical week look like when studying a vocational course?

  • 2 or 3 days at the training provider depending on the course chosen.
  • 1 or 2 days work experience depending on the requirements of the course.
  • 1 day at Lipson, either taking a resit lessons in GCSE English or GCSE Math if required, or a skills based Level 3 ASDAN qualification.

What are the entry requirements for Vocational Courses?

Please see the subject specific entry requirements, but these are usually targeted at students achieving grade 4 and below at GCSE.
